The Hex is a straight to slightly stable mid range disc from Axiom Discs. This disc is the newest offering from the MVP/Axiom lineup, and really was the disc we were all waiting for, but didn’t know it.
Flight Numbers

With flight numbers of 5 speed, 5 glide, -1 turn, and 1 fade, the Hex is described as a ultra glidey, straight mid range. I’m not normally one to put much stock into the flight numbers of discs, but these numbers are extremely accurate. In my flight tests, the hex would drift right ever so slightly (on a RHBH throw) and glide for days before reliably checking up at the end to produce a relatively straight flight.
What Lines Can We Throw?
On a slight hyzer release, the Hex will reliably flip to flat, drift right, and slightly fade at the end, resulting in a straight flight. This type of shot with this disc can be incredibly useful for tunnel shots as well as holes that just need a good, long, straight drives.
With an anhyzer release, the Hex will hold the line without turning over and crashing to the ground. This will allow for those long, panning anhyzer curves that we are all searching for. The slight amount of fade that the Hex has will prevent the disc from hitting the ground on those unwanted cut-roller angles on most types of anhyzers, which is a huge bonus since most flippy discs that one would typically use for this type of shot are more touchy and unforgiving about release angle.
Using this disc for sidearm shots, you will have to release it on a hyzer due to the increase in torque produced by a typical sidearm shot. Once that is accounted for, an incredibly straight mid range throw is possible with the Hex. When I reach for a mid range to throw sidearm, straight discs aren’t typically what I choose, but the Hex may be starting to change my thought process. This disc is more torque resistant than most mid range regardless of stability. My Lucid Verdict requires a much more clean release on a forehand throw than the Hex does, but the Verdict can of course handle a wider variety of lines.
Plastic
So far, we have only seen the Hex released in the Neutron Plastic. This plastic is MVP/Axiom’s most premium plastic. It provides impeccable grip and durability, while maintaining the flight characteristics for a long, long time. The only possible downside to this plastic is that it does get a little slick in the rain, but that is a battle that we fight with nearly every premium plastic from every manufacturer. Hopefully in the future we will see Proton and even Electron versions of the Hex to provide some extra line shaping ability, and the possibility of cycling these to become a real flippy mid range beast of a disc.
Final Thoughts
In my opinion, the Hex is a wonderful disc. One thing that has always been lacking from the MVP lineup is a truly straight midrange. We’ve had the Axis, but that is OOP now. The Reactor is more overstable for most players. And the Matrix is a bump up in stability even from the Reactor. I believe that the Hex is a perfect disc for you if you love the Reactor. It can hit the straight lines far easier, and can be flipped over and hold an anhyzer much better than the Reactor. A Hex and a Reactor are the beginning of a knockout mid range section in your bag.
The Hex truly shines in its ability to resist torque. This disc will forgive you for being a little off on your release angle, and it will forgive that little bit of OAT that we all seem to develop as soon as we tee off in a tournament. Having a disc that is reliable, that can be counted on every single time, that isn’t overstable, is a wonderful thing to have when things get a little hairy in a tournament or when the conditions are a little uncomfortable.
On a personal note, I have tried to bag a Discraft Buzzz for years. I have tried every plastic on the market, I have tried to hyzer flip, turnover, throw it flat, and I have never had a Buzzz that I could rely on. I have never found two Buzzz’s that fly the same. The Hex is the Buzzz that we all want, but can never seem to find. A wonderfully glidey, straight mid range. Huge shout out to the team at MVP for a fantastic mold!
